Why synthetic grass beats organic turf for rooftops.

Rooftop Greenery

Green roofs are making an impact in cities all over the world. Green roofs deliver shade, absorb heat from the air, and reduce the roof surface and the air temperatures surrounding it. These rooftops are a wonderful way to expand square footage and improve mental health by incorporating a green outdoor space in the concrete jungle. By using synthetic, you can expand the possibilities for making a creative space in an otherwise bland location.

Benefits of Synthetic Grass Rooftops

There are numerous benefits to installing synthetic turf on a rooftop. Here are some of our favorite reasons:

Easy to Clean

Artificial grass is very simple to keep clean and well-preserved.

Low Weight

It doesn’t pose any safety risks or hazards compared to natural grass — such as root and water damage.

Provides Insulation

Protects interiors of buildings from extreme heat and could offer immunity to decomposition, mold, or mildew.

Reduced Maintenance

Artificial grass if installed properly, will last for a very long time and require minimal maintenance.

Adds Value

Provides a simple getaway while in the midst of the concrete jungle.

Safe Space for Pets and Kids

With synthetic grass, your kids and pets will not be exposed to potentially dangerous pesticides, weedkillers, and fertilizers.

Create A One-Of-A-Kind Look

Synthetic turf makes it simple to install turf where traditional grass would not grow, and you have the ability to create unique figures, or even place them on walls if you want to.

Which Fiber Type Should You Use?

There is a lot to think about when selecting synthetic turf, not to mention what would be a good fit for a rooftop. Here are some essential aspects to consider when purchasing:

Nylon is a durable fabric, however, outdoor spaces are prone to expansion/contraction and more likely to fade.

For indoor areas, we recommend nylon or situations with heavy commercial wear or non-fill locations. All non-infill nylon Shaw products observe extensive flammability testing to comply with building codes.

We recommend an infill PE tape product for a commercial rooftop area.

PE tape provides durability without sacrificing performance; high grade PE resins are fade-resistant and not susceptible to contraction and expansion. Our Play-Safe collection provides superior performance for this application.
